Continuing Education (CE/CME) Requirements

NOTE: The Domestic Violence course must be approved by any state or federal government agency, or nationally affiliated professional association, or any provider of Category I or II American Medical Association Continuing Education. Home study courses approved by one of these entities are acceptable. The Prevention of Medical Error course must be approved by any state or federal government agency, or nationally affiliated professional association, or any provider of Category I or II American Medical Association Continuing Education. One hour of a two hour course which is provided by a facility licensed under Chapter 395, Florida Statutes, for its employees may be used to partially meet this requirement.

Florida Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Renewal Requirements

Nurse
Florida Registered Nurse (RN) Renewal Requirements

Continuing Education (CE/CEU) Requirements

A nurse who is certified by a health care specialty program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification is exempt from continuing education requirements.

All courses can be live or home study.

General Hours 20 Must be approved by a state or national organization empowered to accredit nursing continuing education.
Prevention of Medical Errors 2 Must be board approved. Approved courses are listed at cebroker.com
Florida Laws & Rules 2 Must be board approved. Approved courses are listed at cebroker.com. The biennium in which the Florida Laws and Rules course is due your general hours will total 20 (licensees expiring in 2014 are not required to complete the Florida laws and rules until their 2016 renewal).

Florida Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) Renewal Requirements

Continuing Education (CE/CEU) Requirements

A nurse who is certified by a health care specialty program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification is exempt from continuing education requirements. Advanced registered nurse practitioners certified under s. 464.012 must complete at least 3 hours of continuing education on the safe and effective prescription of controlled substances. The 3 hour course on the safe and effective prescription of controlled substances is not included in the exemption.

All courses can be live or home study.

REQUIRED SUBJECT AREA REQUIRED NUMBER OF HOURS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
General Hours 20 Must be approved by a state or national organization empowered to accredit nursing continuing education.
The Safe and Effective Prescription of Controlled Substances 3 Courses offered by the 4 following organizations can meet the requirement for ARNPs:
(1) Statewide Professional Association of Physicians in this state accredited to provide educational activities designated for the American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award Category 1 credit
(2) American Nurses Credentialing Center
(3) American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (4)American Association of Nurse Practitioners

NOTE:

As of 6/12/17:

The Board shall require each person licensed or certified under this chapter to complete a 2 hour CE course on human trafficking, as defined in s.787.06(2).

All nursing professionals must complete this course every biennium beginning January 1, 2019. The first licensees who will need to fulfill this CE requirement are those renewing April 30, 2019.

The course must consists of data and information on all of the following:
• The types of human trafficking
• Factors that place a person at greater risk of being a victim of human trafficking
• Public and private social services available for rescue, food, clothing and shelter referrals
• Hotlines for reporting human trafficking which are maintained by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center and the United States Department of Homeland Security
• Validated assessment tools for identifying a human trafficking victim and general indicators that a person may be a victim of human trafficking
• Procedures for sharing information related to human trafficking with a patient
• Referral options for legal and social services

EMT/Paramedic
Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic Renewal Requirements

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
30 Hours Total are Required for Emergency Medical Technicians
and Paramedics

First Biennium Renewal: If you are renewing  your license for the first time you are required to complete two hours in Medical Errors, One hour of HIV/AIDS and 97 hours of general CME.  A current NCCPA certification can substitute for the 97 general CME courses. The HIV/AIDS course must be Category I.
