Orlando, FL – The EMLRC proudly
announces ownership of land in
Southeast Orlando as part of the
preparation for the thriving medical
metropolis in Central Florida. The
new international training and
educational facility will compliment
the growth in health care and
technology alike. The 4.6 acres is
part of a partial of land in
Southport, directly on the west side
of the Orlando International
Airport. "We're thrilled that years
of work to bring this state-of- the
art facility to Orlando will soon be
a reality," shared Beth Brunner, CEO
of the EMLRC. "There is great
momentum in health care education,
coupled with the growing simulation
platform, which we have been using
for several years." Orlando's Mayor
Dyer shares "This project has the
City of Orlando's full support - and
will certainly be another key piece
of our medical and technology growth
plan."

January
25, 2007 - Orlando, FL – Given Florida’s booming
population and the fact that one in three Floridians will require emergency
care each year, the EMLRC is poised to handle the increased demand for more
lifesavers. In late 2006,
Dr. John C. Hitt, University of Central Florida President, was
one of those three.
After his successful recovery he said:
“Without the well-trained emergency medical team that responded to my heart
attack, I wouldn’t be here today.”
The EMLRC's Capital Campaign, Building on Excellence, announces

December 18, 2006 -
Orlando, FL – The Emergency Medicine
Learning & Resource Center (EMLRC) recently
held a Sneak
Preview Luncheon
to
educate community leaders
on its importance to Central Florida
and to premiere
a new informational video showcasing University of Central Florida (UCF)
President Dr. John Hitt’s personal testimony.
Serving as the host committee, among those in attendance were Kathleen Gallagher McIver, the Honorable Linda Chapin,
the Honorable Glenda Hood, and Rick Walsh.
“EMLRC
plays a major role in training the entire emergency team from the 911
dispatchers and
EMTs to the emergency
room nurses and physicians,”
stated Dr. Richard Slevinski,
EMLRC president. “We offer on-site educational
courses, a new Mobile Simulation Lab, and we look forward to joint
symposiums with the new UCF Medical School and the Burnham Institute.”
Dr. Hitt shared his experiences with emergency professionals with WESH
Channel 2 Health Reporter Dr. Todd Husty. The half-hour interview was taped
to produce an informational video and a public service announcement in
support of EMLRC. Dr. Hitt explains how the teamwork of the emergency
professionals from UCF, the medical helicopter, and the emergency room all
contributed to him surviving his heart attack.
“At some point, you – your family, your loved ones, your friends – will
require lifesaving medical care,” said Glenda Hood, chair of the EMLRC host
committee. “Getting to definitive care within the first hour of injury
drastically increases their chances of survival.”
The EMLRC is working to construct a new and improved, larger training
facility that will not only provide interactive courses with hands-on
learning environments, including a simulated emergency room, ambulance, and
high-tech simulators, but will also feature distance learning capabilities.
The total cost to purchase the land from the city of Orlando and build the
Center is estimated to be $6,000,000. To date, nearly $2,500,000 has been
collected and pledged from a combination of sources including the Federal
Government, the state of Florida, members of the Florida College of
Emergency Physicians, medical groups, and vendors of emergency medical
equipment and services.
